Those of you that weren't really into the hip hop mixtape scene back in the mid '90s probably don't know about the Children of the Corn. I've mentioned them a couple of times on this blog, but to recap, they were basically a group put together by Big L. His goal was to create a Harlem version of Diggin' In The Crates.

Its hard to say how good these guys would have been as a group, if they stuck together, but I'd put them above D12, the LOX or G-Unit. I know its hard to take the post-religious career Ma$e seriously these days, but once upon a time he was a good enough rapper to be considered BIG's successor at Bad Boy. Cam'ron is, at the very least, blowing up the mixtape scene with Dipset. And I've already discussed how good I think Big L was as a rapper.

So what happened to them? Big L was murdered in Harlem. Killa Cam'ron and Murder Mase had a catfight over Mase's appearance fee for the Horse and Carriage Video, and that argument is still going strong. McGruff fell off the face of the earth after releasing Destined to Be. I never heard anything from Bloodshed since the Children of the Corn mixtape. Digga, their producer, still produces and is the manager of Big L's estate.

Today I am posting a freestyle from Herb Mcgruff. The beat in the background is from the Five Deadly Venoms of Brooklyn Mixtape intro.
