Despite my previous claims to the contrary, we still have one last entry left for Bring Me the Remix of Zilla Rocca to wrap up the weekly series of remixes from Zilla's solo mixtape that began way back in November. While the intent of the previous installments was to showcase the talents of the various producers that were involved, the finale is as much about the raps as it is about the beat, a remix of Good Girls by Zilla Rocca himself. It would be more accurate, in fact, to refer to this as a full-fledged sequel rather than a remix, featuring as it does an entirely new beat to go along with three new, slightly raunchy, verses from Zilla, Mally and 2ew Gunn Ciz detailing their further adventures with what sounds like a rather delightful young lass.
Here's Zilla's two cents on Good Girls 2:
I made this beat for another artist who passed on it. A few months passed and Ciz was on a writing bender, told me just to send him beats and he would bang out some verses. This beat was called "Judging Judy," so Ciz came by the studio one night, laid down a bunch of rhymes, and happened to spit on this track. It was a little story about playing some chick. Afer he laid it down, I promptly forgot all about it for another month.
Anyway, as we decided to wrap up the remix campaign for my mixtape, I stumbled across the "Judging Judy" beat on my iTunes or something and remembered Ciz dropped something on it. I digged up the session, heard his story, and caught the line about "good girls" on there, so it hit me like a fastball to the nuts -- "Good Girls 2" as the final track with a new beat and new vocals from the Ciz, myself and Mally. I wrote something real quick and sent it out to Mally. A couple weeks later, I got it back and re-did my verse 'cause Mally and Ciz were both clowning a girl, so I wanted to sandwich their stories with my story of falling for a girl who was a borderline-loser or something haha. Just to keep it interesting. So the hook is really hopeful and nice and refreshing. But you have to get through a few verses from my homies talking about some unruly, entertaining shit!
As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we're hoping to wrap all of these remixes up into a (re)mixtape that will have each of the songs at a slightly higher bitrate than what I've been posting on the site. I'll have an announcement on that once it's finalized, but in the meantime if you'd like to stream all of the songs they're available on this imeem playlist (if any of you missed last year's Feed the Beast, you can also stream all of those freestyles through this playlist).
Shoutout to Zilla and all of the producers and emcees that were involved in Bring Me The Remix... Every single entry has been incredible. Here's hoping that it inspires a few other rappers out there to come correct with their remix game, because, as this project has shown us, tacking a throwaway verse on to the latest beat of the month ain't a remix, it's just lazy. Puffy had higher expectations than that when he invented this whole thing.
