February seems to be a rather productive month for independent artists, as my inbox has been filling up faster than usual. Here are a few of the standout tracks:
Baltimore emcee Black Sunn (previously featured here) is quickly becoming one of my favorite up-and-coming artists. His latest, produced by Varan, sounds like something off of an old Smif N Wessun tape. Head over to Sunn's blog to hear more of his music.
I'll be honest and admit that I don't know much about A.P., and google isn't a whole lot of help when searching on two letter names so that's unlikely to change any time soon. What I do know is that he put out a song with AZ last year, he's got a mixtape called Terminal A coming out soon, and he somehow managed to get Large Professor to produce the above track for him.
This song, from Reef the Lost Cauze (previously featured here) and King Magnetic, jacks the beat from Jake One's The Truth. It remains to be seen whether Reef will ever be able to get the same level of recognition on a national level that Freeway has received over the years, but hold this verse up against Free's from the original and you could make a strong case for it. This song is a promo for King Magnetic and Reef's upcoming joint mixtape, The King and the Cauze, due out in June.
