Persia - Jackin' Jay-Z
Years ago, when I wrote about VH1's melanin-free minstrel show,
The White Rapper Show, I described contestant Persia as, "the down-ass hoodrat [who] throw[s] the dreaded n-word around like its nothing." Perhaps I've become more forgiving in my old age, or perhaps I'm just a sucker for a classic Jay-Z beat, but I'm not at all mad at the NYC rapper's recent remake of one of the
best cuts from
Reasonable Doubt. She loses some points for attempting to deliver the line, "My money stay long like King Kong's schlong" with a straight face, but I'm willing to give her a pass on that for the simple fact that her representation of New York hip hop seems far more authentic to me right now than
a lot of the other stuff coming out of the Empire State lately.
To hear more from Persia, and perhaps ask her how
$hamrock is doing, you can hit her up
on Twitter.
