Scheme - Chicano
Chicago emcee Scheme of The Molemen passed along the above video for his song, Chicano. I haven't heard too many Hispanic rappers deal with the issue of their cultural identity in America quite like this (perhaps they do in Reggaeton, but I can't say I've ever really checked for that), which was interesting. More interesting, however, would have been if Scheme directly tackled the subject of immigration here, as the locations for the video - the towns of Nuevo Laredo, Mexico and Laredo, Texas and the guarded border that separates them - seemed to offer up an opportunity to turn this into a significantly more political track.
The song is off of Scheme's upcoming EP, The Manifesto, due out June 16th.
