Scanz ft. Mr. Lif & Akrobatik - "The Gauntlet" (OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
In the latest example of what appears to be a developing trend among underground rappers - the mining of the until-recently-untapped realm of late 80's fantasy NES games (previously: Final Fantasy) - Philly emcee Scanz has just released the above video for his song The Gauntlet. The geek in me is thoroughly amused by the nod to the classic Midway game, but although Akrobatik does take a moment to reference each of the various characters, I feel like an opportunity was missed to make use of an "Elf Needs Food!" sample. Though I will admit that the M.O.P. sample is pretty good, too.
The Gauntlet is off of Scanz album The Basement Chronicle, which you can download for free over at Four Hour Future. There's a joint on there with Reef the Lost Cauze, Who Reign Supreme?, that's pretty good.
