It's been so long since I've heard any new material from Mos Def that even the prospect of a mumbling, barely coherent verse from the man is enough to get me excited. As luck would have it, I received exactly that today from a promoter for Somalian rapper K'Naan (profiled on this site last year), who passed along an mp3 of a live performance of K'Naan's My God featuring Mos Def. The song is originally off of K'Naan's 2006 album The Dusty Foot Philosopher, though its unclear when this live version was recorded (it sounds like the same version as his B.B. King show in 2006). Peep:

The promoter also passed along one more song from K'Naan's upcoming sophomore album, Troubador (an album I am looking forward to for many reasons, the main one being the promise of a guest appearance from Chubb Rock). Unfortunately it's a Windows-only stream, but the song itself is pretty good so it's worth putting up with the Windows Media Player for the three minutes it takes to listen. Here's the link to the stream:

While we're at it, here's K'Naan's online EPK which features some of his new material, including a song with Damien Marley:

And speaking of Mos Def, here's a live performance of him performing a song from his own upcoming album, Ecstatic, with a beat produced by J Dilla:
