Last week I watched The Freshest Kids, a tremendous documentary about the rise and fall (and brief resurrection) of the b-boy movement, and since then I've been searching for any new hip hop that emphasizes the kind of breakbeats suitable for backspinning on linoleum and cardboard mats. With most danceable (mainstream) rap songs these days focused on promoting what amounts to little more than a hip hop version of line dancing - be it Heismen, Supermen, choppers or, um... teabags - it is perhaps not surprising that my quest for breakdanceable beats was largely unsuccessful.

Eventually I did find one song that gave me some inspiration to dig out my old Adidas track suit and fat-laced sneakers, from a Canadian artist named DL Incognito. The latest single off of his album A Captured Moment in Time, the promo for the Ottowa native's Airplay described it as having a b-boy friendly beat. Peep:

You can hear more tracks from DL Incognito's album A Captured Moment In Time over at his MySpace page. I haven't listened to the entire album yet, but everything I have heard so far has been quite good.

While we're at it, here's a clip from The Freshest Kids that includes footage of the Rock Steady Crew at the Wild Style reunion a few years ago:
