(Image - Rare Tribe Called Quest Remixes)
I was browsing through the low-bee forums today when I came across a thread that had a handful of rare remixes from A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep and (somewhat incongruously) Queen Latifah that I had never heard before. The Tribe remixes, while not quite as good as their original versions, are definitely worth a listen.

First up is the "Hootie" remix of Bonita Applebum, featuring a sample of the Isley Brothers' Between the Sheets, a sample that was more famously used on Biggie's Big Poppa. Coincidentally, the b-side on the vinyl release of this Bonita version features the Vampire mix of Left My Wallet in El Segundo, the source of the "Millie" vocal sample on Lil Wayne's A Millie (which we discussed a couple of months ago).

The second remix is a disco version of Pubic Enemy, a song that served as perhaps the most effective sex ed I was exposed to as a child:

Shoutout to FunkyGoldTeeth for the hook up. You can grab the rest of the remixes over at low-bee.

Speaking of Tribe, if you haven't heard Q-Tip's latest single yet, go check it out. It's not quite as good as some of the songs on that Abstract Innovations mixtape from a year ago, but good enough to have me excited about a possible new album from the Abstract Poetic.

And just for the hell of it, here's one of my favorite verses from Q-Tip:
