Kano - Hustler

I realize that grime music has been played out for a minute now, but Kano is one of the few British rappers who I thought had the talent to maintain his popularity in America once the genre was no longer trendy among the club kids that made it popular for about six months on this side of the Pond, back around 2004. Though he still does seem to maintain a loyal, if small, fanbase in the U.S., I hadn't heard much from him over the past couple of years until, this weekend, he put out the above video. The song, Hustler, will be the first single off of his upcoming album 140 Grime St..

Though the topless women in the video all but guarantee that this will never be aired on American television, I did like the way that he flipped the whole New Jack City/American Gangster concept from women cooking up drugs to bootlegging cds. Admittedly, though, he seems to have jacked almost the entire idea for the video from Nas' Hip Hop Is Dead (minus the Star Wars-inspired opening credits). Dope song, regardless.
