I didn't comment on it when it was first "leaked," but I wasn't all that impressed by Jay-Z's latest Kanye West-produced single Jockin' Jay-Z. The beat was alright, but once again I was left wanting a whole lot more lyrically from a post-Black Album Jay-Z song. While I did appreciate the continuation of an absurd rap beef, as Jay once again called out Noel Gallagher, the overall sound was uninspired, to say the least.

It almost seems like Jay's rapping just for the sake of rapping, with his lyrics now built around little more than references to his own corporate wealth, excusing his overt materialism by saying that he "likes money bitch." Having recently signed a huge deal with Live Nation that pays him more for live performances than record sales, I suspect that when he gets around to recording a full set of songs for The Blueprint 3, he'll be taking Shyne's approach to making an album: phoning it in.

Some good has come out of the new Jay-Z song, however, as DJ Rob Low has upgraded the overall sound with a remix. Taking inspiration from Kanye's sampling of Run DMC's Dumb Girl ("I see you jockin' J.C."), Rob Low improves the track by incorporating some bits from another DMC track, Peter Piper, along with a few old vocals from Jigga himself. While I was searching through Youtube for footage from Jay's appearance at the Glastonbury festival, I came across this mix of Jay-Z's 99 Problems with Oasis' Wonderwall:
