GQ vs. DJ Majesty
I saw Juice for the first time in several years over the weekend, and I had forgotten how much of an impact this movie had on my life. While Omar Epps' "scratching" on the turntables is perhaps the worst acting performance of his career, I didn't know any better at the time and just assumed that turntablism was as easy as wildly flailing a record back and forth the way that GQ did. I spent the next four years of my life saving up enough money to buy a pair of Technics after seeing Juice for the first time in middle school, and while I did manage to get good enough to blend records together, I was never able to do the kind of routine that DJ Majesty put together. I'm still trying.
