I've recently been checking up on some of the artists that have been featured in the past on this site, artists that I haven't had a chance to do any followup posts on, and I came across the above video from Bronx emcee Donnan Linkz. Despite a guest appearance on a track with Junk Science last year, Donnan hasn't yet managed to generate a whole lot of attention for himself, even among underground heads. That's too bad because he's one of the few rappers out there with the ability to drop some knowledge in his rhymes without ever getting heavy handed about it. This latest song of his (well, "latest" as of February - I must have missed this when he first put it out) exposes the culinary realities of living in the 'hood, with the poorest areas of our nation lacking in any real alternatives for nutritional dining.
Donnan's video reminded me of the Internets Celebrities' video Bodega. Watching these two videos together may give you a clue as to why socioeconomics factor so significantly in the increasing rates of high blood pressure and obesity in America. It's hard to go organic when you're just trying to make the rent, I suppose.
