A couple of weeks ago I received a promo from Scion, the boxy car company slash hip hop promo distributor, featuring four remixes of Ghostface's Charlie Brown by various electro and club producers including Ed Banger's DJ Mehdi and Yuksek. The promo seems to have made the rounds across the blog world already, but I'm not one to pass up an opportunity to post some Ghostface tracks even if I'm two weeks late.
Each remix takes a similar approach, chopping up GFK's acapella with various digital effects and throwing the results on top of beats that climb into the 130bpm range. About half of Ghost's fanbase should be thoroughly pleased with the results, while the other half will be left wondering what exactly is going on. While I like the original version of Charlie Brown as it is, it's interesting to hear Ghostface get the club treatment, particularly on a track that proclaims Ghost's intentions to 'save real hip hop.' I would have expected hip hop's salvation to be backed by a Primo beat. Peep:
