DJ Krush - Scratch Segment

As I previously mentioned, I'm a huge fan of the movie Scratch and in particular the above scene with DJ Krush, which opens up the final chapter of the film. When it first came out, in the internet dark ages of 2002, I spent hours trying to track down the record that Krush used. This was before YouTube and Wikipedia changed the whole game up, back when the only on-line option for finding information like this was to dig through the old Deja News and alt.rap archives and hope that some other hip hop nerd had already tracked down the record. I eventually found the name of the song, but I was never able to find a copy of it at any of the record stores around my way. While I was searching for a clip of the Clapping Song last week, I saw that someone finally got around to uploading Krush's segment, so I thought I'd link to it today.

The main record Krush plays is New Flesh For Old's 186,000 Miles, off of their album Equilibrium. New Flesh For Old is a London-based group, now just known as New Flesh, led by emcee Toastie Tailor. If you listen to the full song, it sounds like there are at least three different people rapping on 186,000 Miles, but it's actually just Toastie changing up his voice throughout the song.

I've never been able to track down the source of the flute sample that Krush lays on top of the New Flesh For Old track, though he has used it on a couple of his other records. Here's a seperate clip of him using the same sample. If anyone knows where it's from, please stop by the comment section. Also, I've heard that there's a recording somewhere out there of the full hour-long set (the video was taken from a 2001 show), which has yet to find its way onto YouTube. If you've got a link to that, please get at me.

While we're on the subject of DJ Krush, here's a video of an old collaboration he did with DJ Shadow: Krush and Shadow - Duality
