DJ Semantik over at cratekings just posted a new instrumental album from Damu the Fudgemunk, Spare Time, that is required listening for any beat junkie out there. Damu is the 22-year old producer behind Y Society, a group you really need to start getting familiar with if you're a fan of that ol' boom bap.

I've spent the better part of a day listening to this one in my headphones, and I have to say Damu lives up to his reputation as a hardcore vinyl head. This album is filled to the brim with great samples (along with a few unreleased tracks from Y Society), and if you have as bad a memory as I do you'll undoubtedly find yourself playing these tracks over and over until you finally remember which classic hip hop songs have used the samples in the past. Here are two tracks off of Spare Time:

Damu - Ego Troopin'

Ego Troopin' is built around a sample from the great Al Hirt's Harlem Hindoo, last heard sampled on De La Soul's Ego Trippin' Pt. 2. The intro to this next track should be familiar to all of the LOTUG fans in the audience:

Damu - To RBI

Damu's made the album available for free, so do your ears a favor and go download it over at cratekings.com. Shoutout to my man JNOTA for once again hooking us up with some great music.

And here's a bonus video of Damu remaking K-Def's instrumental from Mad Props:

(And yes, I know I just made yet another reference to K-Def. I don't mean to ruffle y'all, but he's a hometown legend. What do you want me to say?)
