New track today from my man Mally, an emcee repping the 612 area code of Minnesota. In the few months since Marc sent me a copy of Mally's first album, The Letter, I've become convinced that he has the talent to make a legitimate career out of being an emcee. There aren't a whole lot of unsigned artists I can say that about (here's a list of the others), but if this kid stays focused it's only a matter of time before some label signs him up. His flow is impeccable, he's able to craft a story with his lyrics and still throw in the occasional one liner, and he's got a great ear for beats. In short, he's the full package.
This latest song, My People, features production from a "wee-wee bonjour france cat" (Mally's words, he's got jokes). The beat that this unnamed frenchman has laced him with is incredible, and Mally kills it, sounding like an '08 version of Chuck D. with a three-minute shoutout to the source of his inspiration.
My People is off of his forthcoming album The Moment, which he is working on with Jon Redwine. Mally's currently holding it down at St. Thomas, but you can hit up his MySpace page for updates on the project. He'll also be appearing on the upcoming Clean Guns mixtape, which we should have more info on by the end of the month.
Here are two previous features we did on Mally from last year:
