My man Mydus just released a new mixtape today, Cold Brew Vol. 1. For those of you who aren't familiar with him, Mydus is a producer hailing from Miami, FL. The beats that he creates are unlike anything else you'll hear coming out of the south - they're soulful and loaded up with samples. Though he's only been producing for a couple of years, he's one of the best unsigned producers that I've come across. He once told me that he relies primarily on Fruity Loops, and I'm amazed at the level of quality music he's been able to produce with a relatively low-budget software package.

While in the past Mydus stuck with whole albums for his remix projects (Jay-Z's Black Album and AZ's AWOL), this time around he's gone the more traditional mixtape route, grabbing tracks from a variety of artists for each remixed track. From Biggie to the Beatnuts to Inspectah Deck, Mydus takes a few classics and a handful of newer songs and puts his own stamp on them, seamlessly laying in his own beats under the original vocals. As with his previous two releases, on Cold Brew he's able to do what many producers, signed or unsigned, fail to do: create a remix that stays true to the original concept of the song while taking the music itself in an entirely different direction.

Two tracks off of the mixtape:

AZ featuring Cormega - No Holding Back (Mydus Remix)

Havoc - The Boss (Mydus Remix)

Needless to say, I highly recommend picking this one up. Here's a link to download Mydus' Cold Brew Vol. 1 (megaupload link)

Mydus has been featured on this site a couple of times in the past. Here are links to the previous articles:
