Poor Righteous Teachers - Rock Dis Funky Joint

I spent a large portion of my day listening to the Poor Righteous Teachers' Holy Intellect, so I thought it would be a good time to link to Rock Dis Funky Joint, my favorite track of theirs. As I've mentioned before, I find the whole concept of the Five Percenters, the driving force behind PRT, to be both absurd and offensive. My brother used to play Holy Intellect out a lot when I was a kid, though, so I'm a little more tolerant towards the Teachers than, say, Brand Nubian (the fact that they're from Jersey doesn't hurt, either).

This song samples War's Slipping Into Darkness. Shortly after Holy Intellect was released, the group was sued for not clearing the sample. In the book Check the Technique, Wise Intelligent says he ended up losing money on the album as a result.

The Fugees later used Funky Joint for their song Manifest, sampling Wise's line, "Before I manifest the rhyme!"
