As a followup to yesterday's post, I've got the source for the original vocals on DJ Shadow's Six Days. It's from the song Six Days War by Colonel Bagshot, a group out of Liverpool, written by Brian Farrell with lead vocals sung by Kenny Parry. The group has since split up, though most of the members are now in a group called Hambone.
Six Days has always been my favorite DJ Shadow track, so I was pretty excited to hear the source material for it. As you may remember from Shadow's version, the lyrics stop at "Thursday," but the original contains two more verses that I had never heard before. From what little information I was able to turn up on google, it seems that DJ Shadow never paid any royalties to the members of Colonel Bagshot for the use of the sample.
For copyright reasons, I can't put up a download link to it. You'll have to play it through the site (for those of you using Google Reader, you'll have to come directly to the site to use the flash player):
Colonel Bagshot - Six Days War
You can read more about Colonel Bagshot, and listen to a few more of their songs, over at their MySpace page. All of their albums seem to be out of print, but if you're so inclined you can pick up a used copy over at Amazon.
Shout out to my dude Bless 1, who came through with the track and the myspace link.
On another note, DJ Anonymous has put up 10 relatively hard to find Wu-Tang tracks, including one of my favorites of all time, the Rainy Days Remix with Ghost and Raekwon (anyone have the instrumental for that one?). Also included are some tracks from Pop Da Brown Hornet and the Dark Skinned Assassin. Here's the link to DJ Anonymous' blog, go check it out.
