Quick post for today, as I spent most of the evening listening to Funkmaster Flex milk the "Billion Dollar" remix of 50 Cent's I Get Money, featuring Diddy and Jay-Z, for all it was worth on Hot 97. After spending about 15 minutes talking trash about DJ Clue (for not DJing on his own show) and Cherry Martinez, Flex finally got around to playing the actual song around 7:30. It wasn't until sometime after 8:00, after a neverending series of bomb drops and rewinds, that he finally let the song play through to the end.
Initial thoughts on it: Diddy, or more accurately his ghostwriter, came with a stronger verse than 50 Cent ("While I was with Jennifer Lopez in Saint Tropez, you and your crew were in Miami on mopeds" ... nothing spectacular, but still better than what Curtis had to say). Jay's verse was alright, though nothing particularly memorable about it. Flex seemed to think that Jay was calling out L.L. Cool J (something to do with Jay calling himself "the G.O.A.T."). And....that's about it. Overall, I can't say that it lived up to all of the hype. I actually liked Milk D's version better, if only for the nostalgia factor.
So that's my 5 minute review of the long-awaited I Get Money remix. It's not up on youtube yet, but I suspect that it will be all over the internet by tomorrow morning. Moving on to today's mixtape:
Over the weekend, Mick Boogie dropped a new mixtape sponsored by AllHipHop, AllHipHop Weekend 2007. Overall, it's a pretty nice mix, with songs from Cassidy, Freeway, the Wu and a new track from Nore that's surprisingly listenable.
There are a few tracks, however, that are so out of place on here that I have to assume AllHipHop received promotional fees from the labels to include them - the tracks from Hurricane Chris and Soulja Boy, in particular, really kill the momentum. As usual on a Mick Boogie mixtape, though, the remixes produced by himself and partner Terry Urban make up for any questionable choices in the playlist. Here are two of the best:
