When Jame Watts sent me a sent me a copy of his College Dropout remix album last winter (which you can read more about here), I was blown away by the quality of it. Mixing Kanye West with classic Chicago soul records was a natural combination, and the beats that Watts crafted for the remixes turned what was ostensibly a mashup album into something that was arguably as good as the source material itself. So I knew that the South Orange native had skills as a producer, but I was surprised when I went to his myspace page this weekend and listened to a couple of tracks that had him rapping as well. Take a listen:

James Watts - Little Jimmy

James Watts - Traces of Hope

I'm always biased when it comes to cats from Jersey, but Watts sounds pretty nice on the mic.

Those two tracks are off of his Shameless Promotion mixtape, which came out last year. You can hear more of his music on his MySpace page. And for even more, herfiction recently did an interview with him.
