From my man Brandon over at embeddedmusic comes a track featuring a black and a white rapper - Donnan Linkz and Baje One of Junk Science, respectively - discussing the always hot-button issue of "The N-Word." Brandon says that the song "[is] a story about two friends (one black, one white) whose close friendship was torn apart when the N-word surfaced."

I'm generally of the opinion that words only have as much power as we give them, that censoring words only serves to limit discussion of the real problems behind them. Or to be more philosophical about it, a word is only offensive if we allow it to offend us. But then I turn on the news and see the kinds of things that are still going on in this country, and I start to think that maybe there are certain words that just aren't worth using in any context, by anyone. I'm not certain that using ridiculous substitutes for the word, such as "ninja", does much to elevate the level of discussion, however.

In any event, the track itself does a nice job of presenting the whole issue without moralizing. And the beat, produced by Donnan, is pretty dope:
