My man Mike, the coworker who put me up on that bizarre Klowns track from Bootsy Collins and his son, took me way back today when he sent me the link to Velore and Double O's Your Ugly (and before anyone asks, yes, that's how they spelled "You're"). I don't know of anyone who actually picked up their album We're Coming Correct, but at one point during the summer of '89 - a full year after the album was released - this song was getting some serious play on Ralph McDaniel's Video Music Box. Soon after releasing this video, they came out with the followup single She's Fine, effectively covering all angles of the dating game.
After Velore hooked up with Double O, the duo began working with producer Gary Pozner (who later went on to produce the Tom Tom Club's Genius Of Love, a song you've probably heard ODB rhyming over with Mariah Carey) and became the first rap group to sign with Virgin Records. After releasing Your Ugly, they even started up their own clothing label, Your Ugly Clothing. Not surprisingly with a name like that, the label didn't last too long, but they do hold the honor of being the first rappers to own a clothing line, years before Roc-A-Wear, Wu-Wear or even Phat Farm existed.
Velore eventually left Double O and began working with Jimmy Henchmen, perhaps best known as the father of the boy that was assaulted by Tony Yayo, on their joint record label 1155 Records. To see more of what Velore is currently working on, check out his MySpace page or his site videosonblast.
As for Double O, I haven't been able to turn up any information on him.
