About a week ago, Benja Styles released a new mixtape with DJ Drama and JDS, Welcome to the City of Realadelphia. It took me a few days, but I finally got a chance to listen to it this weekend. I'm not entirely sure what Drama, who it turns out was born and raised in Philly, contributed to this tape beyond a few interludes announcing his new nickname Barack O'Drama. As usual, though, Benja has loaded up the tape with several of his own remixes.
Some of the highlights include Peedi rapping over Take It Personal, Cassidy over Takeover and Beanie over Realms of Junior M.A.F.I.A., though there are also a few original tracks from Jakk Frost and Freeway worth checking out as well. Gillie Da Kid also pops up on the mix, rapping about nothing in particular on Make It Do What It Do, but he's only interesting when he's talking trash about Lil Wayne, and only mildly so at that. For those of you looking for the latest from the Philly hip hop scene, this is worth a look.
