I had another late night crossing kids up on the basketball court, so a quick post for tonight. I'm a little late on this, but I just got a chance to listen to the newest mixtape from Wale, a rapper/go-go artist out of Washington, DC. He's been embraced by the hipster/blogster crowd, and his recent appearances with Amy Winehouse and Lily Allen, along with his devotion to Nike's SB Dunks, would seem to ensure his continued good standing in the hipster community.
More often than not that's a sign that there's more gimmick than substance to an artist, but Wale does have some talent. His lyrics aren't particularly complex - they're more suited for the club than for your headphones - but he's got a nice flow. Whatever shortcomings he may have are covered up by a great selection of beats on this mixtape, from Camp Lo's Luchini to Big Daddy Kane's Warm It Up, Kane.
Also be sure to stop by catchdubs.com, the website of the dj (Nick Catchdubs) who put the mix together.
Finally, as you can see I'm continuing the use of that flash player. I'll try to include at least one song in each post that can be played through the site. Depending on the response and the affect on my bandwidth bill, it may become a permanent feature.
