For the first couple of months after DJ Drama's arrest, it seemed like the mixtape scene was entering a new era. Mick Boogie was dropping mixtapes almost weekly with the public support of labels like Def Jam and Bad Boy, Def Jux and Stones Throw were putting out free albums for download, and the local bootleggers around my way were coming through with their suitcases loaded up with new batches of mixtapes every day. At some point during the spring, though, things seemed to dry up. Kanye's latest was interesting, and Sean Price is working on a new tape that I'm pretty excited about, but other than that there hasn't been a whole lot of mixes featuring mainstream MCs worth recommending.

One dj who has stayed on his grind, however, is Wit-E ("Witty") out of Tampa, Florida. This dude has been putting out a new volume of his Street Bangers mixtape series about once a month for a while now, featuring tracks from every region of hip hop and just about every type of MC, from KRS-1 to Devin the Dude, Jojo Pellegrino to Young Jeezy. More importantly, one of his latest mixes features several songs from my man Bless 1. Here's a link:

Go cop that tape first, then stop by his MySpace page for links to the rest of his mixtapes. There's some dope music on there, it's free, and it's got Bless on there. So go get it!

Unrelated: Following up on yesterday's T.I. remixes, Griff hit me up with another great one today. This is a remix of Rubberband Man. Between the two T.I. remixes and the Rhyme City mixtape, Griff has been dropping some amazing beats lately:
