Today I finally got a chance to listen to the mixtape that Kanye West put out last Friday,
Can't Tell Me Nothing. A lot of people seem to be bugging out over one of the songs on the tape,
Stronger, which samples Daft Punk's
Harder Better Faster Strong. Don't get me wrong, the beat's dope (though I don't think it's the best song on the mixtape), but I would consider it a lot more groundbreaking if it hadn't come out almost a year after Busta Rhyme's
Touch It made use of another Daft Punk sample,
Technologic.
There are some nice tracks scattered throughout the mixtape, though you'll have to skim through a fair amount of G.O.O.D. Music filler to find them. Most of the beats sampled - from Thom Yorke to Kid Sister to Jeezy - seem to be geared more toward the hipster crowd, which at the very least will guarantee a good review on Pitchfork. I have to wonder how it will be received by the average hip hop head, though. There are about five songs on here that make the tape worth picking up and have me looking forward to his upcoming Graduation album, though.
Since I'm late on this one, most of the other blogs have already posted up the best tracks. I'm gonna change lanes for a minute and hit you off with a couple of the "interview" segments from the tape, which I found kind of amusing:
Kanye discusses the Adult Video Awards, Porn and Strip Clubs
Kanye discusses Rolling Stone and his thoughts on the interview process

To go along with the mixtape, Kanye's website has a video up for
