DJ Soul has just released his Dilla tribute
Assorted Donuts, featuring 20 tracks of various hip hop artists remixed with beats from Dilla's album
Donuts. I've put up a couple of songs from Assorted Donuts on this site already and if you've heard either of them, you don't need me to tell you how good DJ Soul's remixes sound. Here's two more tracks:
Redman - Gobstopper remix
Big L - Geek Down remix
I'm surprised someone hasn't done a Dilla remix album like this before now, but as it is,
Assorted Donuts serves as a tremendous tribute to the man. Though J Dilla is fairly well known on the internet and among backpacker-types, there's a large segment of the hip hop audience - fans who get their exposure to the music primarily through outlets like Hot 97 and Rap City - that has no idea who he is. Hopefully this album, by mixing some of Dilla's greatest beats with more mainstream rappers, will expose his legacy to a few new listeners.

Seattle-based rap group Blue Scholars are about to release a new album on Rawkus Records,
Bayani. I can't say I had ever heard of them before - in fact, I can't say I've heard any hip hop coming out of Seattle - but the promo tracks I just received sounded decent. Here's one of them:
