A few days after the first episode of The (White) Rapper Show aired, I got in touch with one of the contestants, John Brown. I asked him if he'd be interested in doing an interview to discuss his ongoing efforts as a Ghetto Revivalist. He told me it was all good, Hallelujah Holla Back. So I submitted some questions to his manager (I can't imagine a real journalist would ever do that, but the standards of journalistic integrity for a blogger are somewhat lowered - mine seem to be, anyway), he gave me the okay and it looked like we were well on our way to getting this interview popping off.

The plan was to post the interview the day after the finale of the show (last night). Long story short, the interview fell through, at least for now. I do have a few other interviews in the works -- first up, DJ Swindle in a couple of weeks. I'm still hoping the John Brown thing works out, but I'm not counting on it. Too bad, because he has some interesting things to say, some things that might surprise you.

Anyway, the track I'm putting up today is totally unrelated to all of that and it pretty much speaks for itself. Mashing up Dilla's Thunder (off of Donuts) with M.O.P.'s Pounds Up, this is off of DJ Soul's upcoming Dilla Remix album:

Mashed Out Donuts

Getting back to the White Rapper Show, did anyone else hear what Prince Paul said during the final review of John Brown and Shamrock? I'm paraphrasing, but it was something along the lines of, "You don't need to be a lyricist to be a good MC." This is coming from the same cat behind Talkin' All That Jazz? After hearing that, I can't say I was at all surprised to see the "crunk" rapper win the show. Shamrock seems like a nice enough guy, but the top (unsigned) white MC in the country? Nah.
