While there have been a few highlights in the ongoing dispute between Dipset and Jay-Z's baggage handlers -
Tru Life charging fans $20 to take a picture of themselves wearing stolen Dipset jewelry, the Diplomats
breaking into Tru Life's MySpace page - for the most part this beef has failed to keep my interest. Its hard to get excited about diss tracks from rappers who wouldn't otherwise be good enough for a KaySlay mixtape. Even when Jay-Z dropped his
two responses, the conflict never elevated to the lyrical heights of Ether and Takeover.
With all of that said, I knew I shouldn't have expected much from
Respect My Grind 3, the latest mixtape from Springfield Mass's
DJ Scope. The tape features diss tracks from just about every member of Dipset and the remaining Rocafellas, from Cam'ron and Jay-Z to J.R. Writer and Memphis Bleek. Not surprisingly, the tracks are lyrically unexceptional at best. Things hit a low point early on with J.R. Writer detailing Jay-Z's alleged homosexual activities up in the Def Jam offices, and the tape never really recovers after that. There are a few tracks on here unrelated to the Dip/Roc beef, including a freestyle from Cassidy and a couple of D-Block songs, but its not enough to save the mixtape from the mediocrity of the Dipset and Rocafella benchwarmers.
A couple of tracks from the tape:
Jay-Z Freestyle Dissing Dipset
Cam'ron and J.R. Writer - I Saw a Camel on a Camel
And one of the beef-free tracks:
Peedi Peedi and Jae Millz - Back 2 Biz

On the subject of Jay-Z, check out
this story about Katrina, an obsessed Jigga fan. From the article:
"Katrina explains that when she heard a rumor that Jay-Z proposed to BeyoncT, she snapped and tore all his pictures up. 'I want to see BeyoncT and Jay-Z one day in public and just go there and snatch her weave out.'"
