Releasing the Talib Kweli and Madlib album Liberation for free earlier this month seemed to work well enough for Stones Throw, so they've decided to do it again. For the next week, you can download Peanut Butter Wolf Presents: Chrome Children 2 free of charge over at Stones Throw. The compilation album features Madlib, Percee P, Guilty Simpson and several other Stones Throw artists.
I'll be honest, outside of J Dilla's work I'm not a huge fan of the music coming out of the Stones Throw label. Most of it seems to be hit or miss to me, but its hard to criticize an album that's being given out for free. In the case of Chrome Children 2, there's some good stuff to be found here. I'm not sure if I would have paid money for it, but it was certainly worth the five minutes it took to download. Primarily an instrumental album (nine of the sixteen tracks do not have vocals), the highlights come courtesy of J.Rocc, who's turntable cuts are featured on several of the songs.
