Very sad news: According to URB magazine, producer Disco D was "found dead this morning of an apparent suicide." Its speculation at this point, but he suffered from bipolar disorder and this is presumed to be the motivating factor in his suicide.
As I've mentioned before, I first heard of Disco D through my brother, who's been a big fan of his since Detroit Zoo. I wasn't a huge fan of his ghettotech stuff, though I wouldn't fast forward it when it came up in the iPod rotation, either. It wasn't until he dropped the beat for 50 Cent's Ski Mask Way, arguably the best original beat 50 has ever rapped over, that I really started to pay attention to the work he was releasing.
While Disco D wasn't as prolific in hip hop as he was in other genres, he still got mentioned on this site more than a few times. Here are a couple of the posts that I managed to dig up:

Definitely take a minute to check out some of his work (you can hear more at his MySpace page). A lot of it isn't the kind of music that I normally highlight on this site, but real recognize real, and this dude was definitely talented.
