Hot Rod?

When I hit up the mixtape bootleggers around the way, I try to pick up stuff that can reasonably be expected to have a few hot tracks on it. Every now and then, though, I'll pick up a tape that goes against my better judgment. I'm not sure why I do it. Maybe its so that I can better appreciate the good stuff by comparison, or maybe the lure of $3 cds is just too much for me to pass up. In any event, I picked up Mick Swagger, a mixtape from G-Unit's Young Hot Rod, and it lived down to every expectation I had for it. I won't go so far as to say he's the worst rapper on G-Unit (Yayo's still under contract, right?), but that's about the best compliment I can give him.

Hot Rod spends most of his time on the mic trying to present himself as some sort of rapping Casanova, constantly bragging about all of the women he's been with, but it never sounds all that believable. When he's not rapping about the ladies that he's allegedly run through, he's talking about the cars and chains he's bought with 50 Cent's money. Spend a minute or two reading his biography, and you'll start to get the feeling that he's a kept man. From an interview with AOL:

"Quit [your job as a mortgage broker]," 50 told him. "You don't need to work anymore. I'm gonna fly you out the next day and we're gonna work. Don't bring any bags, we're gonna go shopping." For Young Hot Rod, that conversation still seems like a fantasy."

If you're so inclined, you can go pick up DJ Semi and Hot Rod's Mick Swagger over at mixunit. For more from Hot Rod, hit up his MySpace page.

AOL has a few videos of him doing a live performance with Mary J Blige and the rest of the G-Unit conglomerate.

Bonus videos of a rapper that Hot Rod should study before hitting us off with any more rhymes about the ladies:
