When Gillie Da Kid started dissing Lil Wayne over the summer, there was no doubt he would put out a mixtape dissing Cash Money's Father and Son. I'm just surprised it took this long for Gillie to release his latest tape,
The Truth Hurts. As I've mentioned before, the first thing you'll notice about this tape is the cover, which has a drawing of Gillie looking just like
Bubbles (speaking of which, how depressing was last night's season finale of the Wire?).
Anyway, out of the twenty or so tracks on this tape, I'd say nearly half of them focus on dissing Weezy and Baby (the majority of the remaining songs are unreleased tracks from his days at Cash Money). Baby and Wayne have certainly given Gillie a lot of material to work with, but it still seems borderline obsessive to devote that many songs to them. At one point during the tape, Gillie claims that he's turned down several offers from record labels, saying that he won't sign for anything less then a million dollars. There's nothing on
The Truth Hurts that would suggest he's worth that kind of money, but I guess if Papoose can pull in
a seven figure deal, there's no reason why other mediocre mixtape rappers can't aim for the same amount. Here are a couple of tracks from the tape:
Gillie, Spade O and 50 Cent -- F You
Gillie -- 'Olla Back
