Four things:
1) What's up with Southern rappers talking reckless all of a sudden? First Lil Wayne
called Jay-Z out, saying "I'm better than him." Then T.I. called Nas out, telling him to "
play his position, keep making his Egyptian History rap while we make our money." And now we have Jeezy taking a few shots at Nas as well.
There have been some questions raised about the authenticity of the T.I. quote, but the latest from Young Jeezy comes with audio.
Here's a link to the Monie Love/Jeezy interview (via NovaSlim.com), wherein Jeezy calls out Nas. Take a close listen to it once you get to the 3:00 mark, when Jeezy gives voice to everything that is killing hip hop today. In Jeezy's mind, hip hop is all about album sales and street credibility ("Nas don't bust his gun").
I'm not even that big of a Nas fan, but is there anyone out there who thinks Jeezy is more important to hip hop than Nas? If so, please go back and listen to
Illmatic a few times.
2) I hadn't heard from Crime Mob since
Knuck if you Buck came out, but they've got a new album and a new single that people seem to be going nuts over. The song,
What Is Love, jacks the beat from
Haddaway's What Is Love. I hope that its just the nostalgia from hearing a Haddaway track again after all these years that has people feeling this Crime Mob version, because the track itself is pretty bad. If beat jacking a bad song from the early 90's wasn't enough, one of the (now ex-)members of the group, Killa C,
pled guilty to charges of molesting his six year old brother. Killa C wasn't even dropped from the group until the guilty plea recently became public. While I'm willing to buy albums from convicted drug dealers, child molestation is on another level. Even if they were capable of putting out a great album (they aren't), I can't get behind that.
3) As a quick follow up to yesterday's
Ski Mask Way post, remember when 50 Cent actually came with some good lyrics?
Check out How To Rob. "I rob boys to men, like I'm Michael Bivins."
4) Today's track:
Nas -- Salute Me (DJ Premier Blend). Seemed fitting for today.
