I'm not sure what was going through my head at the time that made me think this would be a good thing to purchase, but at some point in the past year I picked up a cd of G-Unit instrumentals. It sat neglected at the bottom of my collection for a few months until yesterday, when I went digging through my cds to find a few beats for a mix I was putting together. After listening to an hour of beats that have been tarnished by the likes of Tony Yayo and Spider Loc, the one track that stood out for me was the Disco D-produced
Ski Mask Way. Back when 50 Cent's
The Massacre came out, people kept telling me that Disco D's beat was a masterpiece. Maybe I just couldn't appreciate it with 50's vocals stumbling over it, or maybe I just couldn't accept that there was anything redeeming to be found on
The Massacre, but it wasn't until yesterday that I realized how good this beat is. Check it out:

The beat samples the O'Jays classic
What Am I Waiting For. Here's a snippet of that:

Disco D also produced a video for the song with 50 Cent.
You can see it on YouTube.
After I posted that
Kevin Federline review a couple of months ago, I got an email claiming to be from Disco D. For a few days before the actual release of
Playing With Fire, google was putting 33jones up as the first result for the search term "Kevin Federline Album Review," so I'm guessing that's how he came to the site. Anyway, Disco D (or, more likely, someone claiming to be him -- I was never able to verify that) had a few choice words for me after reading the review and
my earlier post on PopoZao. I still stand by what I said, and I think Disco should be ashamed of himself for getting involved with K-Fed's project, but I can't front on
Ski Mask Way. So Disco, if you're reading this, consider it an apology of sorts.
Breaking news: Nas'
Hip Hop Is Dead just leaked onto the internet. Damn, I thought it would take another week before that happened.
