Though its apparently been out since August, I just came across the album Laffy Taffy Rots Your Teeth. Even before listening to any of it, I knew I was going to like it just for its stance against D4L and the other similarly mindless rap groups that have come out of the ATL in the past couple of years. Yeah, I know that dissing Snap music at this point is passT, but as long as the Ying Yang Twins continue to put out new music, its still an issue that needs to be addressed.

The album, featuring Los Angeles' MC Free Speech and producer Ro Blvd, contains ten songs all available for free download. Hip hop albums that are released for free typically fall short on the production side, but Ro Blvd does a good job of finding the right beats to match Free Speech's work on the mic. Its the lyrics, attacking the materialism and minstrelsy that continue to endanger hip hop, that are the centerpiece of Rots Your Teeth, though. If you're into more than just mainstream hip hop, this is definitely worth checking out. Here's one of the tracks from the album:

Everything Is Different Now

They've also put out a couple of videos for the project, which you can see on Youtube:

I've got a couple of requests for today: First, I got an e-mail from my man DJ Swindle (the DJ behind Bobb Deep, 80 Cent and Em-J). Swindle is in the running for "Best Mashup Artist" in this year's Mixtape Awards. There are some pretty good djs that are up for the award, but Swindle's the only one who offered up his entire album for free. That alone is a good enough reason for you to vote for him. You can vote at themixtapewardsonline.com.

And finally, if anyone has a copy of Sean Price's Jamaican or Uncle Murder's Murdera, please get at me (deefresh AT gmail.com). I need them for a project I'm working on (more details on that coming soon). Thanks!
