In my mind, there are two main requirements that need to be met if you are going to put out a hip hop album. All I ask is that you have some hint of talent and that you don't blatantly attempt to exploit the music. These days, I might even be willing to give you a pass if you meet just one of those requirements. Sadly, Kevin Federline comes up short on both. Here is his newest video, Lose Control:

I can only assume that at some point during the video shoot K-Fed decided to see how many rap cliches he could fit into a 4 minute song: the closeup on the diamond necklace, watch and earring, the fitted Yankees hat tilted just so, the shoutout to his own record label, the Cristal reference, the blacklight club shot. Its like a remake of In Da Club with the sci-fi fitness scenes cut out.

Also be sure to check out this hard hitting interview with K-Fed from Allhiphop.com. At one point the interviewer asks, "Since you have both, which weighs more in music: looks or skills?" Good to see AHH isn't afraid to ask the tough questions. What does it say when MSNBC is more critical of Federline than AllHipHop?

While we're on the subject of hip hop projects that perhaps should have been reconsidered, I was recently given some tracks of Indie rock bands covering Kanye West's College Dropout. The album came out last year, so it looks like I'm a little behind on this one. Anyway, here's one of the tracks from Belaire, a group out of Austin, TX:

I'm not into the indie scene at all, but at the very least this album showed a lot more creativity than anything you'll find on Kevin Federline's album. You can pick up "Indie Translations of The College Dropout" from Vitamin Records.
