Lil Wayne hasn't had a great summer so far, with Gillie dogging him every chance he gets, and it just got a lot worse for him yesterday. During his stay at Twelve Hotel in Atlanta, an employee came into his room to check on the security system. While he was in there, the employee noticed a "gallon-size bag" of weed and smelled marijuana in the room. Eventually, the hotel manager called police to deal with the situation. After getting Weezy's consent to enter the room (big mistake), the police found three bottles of prescription drugs and a couple of used joints. No sign of a gallon-sized bag of weed, though. Wayne was arrested and released on $11,000 bail.

Two things we can all learn from this: Don't stay at the Twelve Hotel, especially if you plan to bring along a lifetime supply of weed, and never give consent to the police. Ever. It doesn't matter if its your car, your hotel room, or whatever. You have absolutely nothing to gain by consenting to the police.

That's an interesting enough story on its own, but the arrest report reveals that it wasn't just a gallon bag of weed that Weezy was hiding: his birth date (if the report is accurate) is 9/27/1979. That would make him 27 years old, while he has always claimed to be at least 4 years younger than that in interviews. Weezy did first come out around the same time that Bow Wow and Romeo were selling records in part due to the gimmick of their young ages, but Weezy himself was never marketed to the preteen crowd, so I don't know how much he actually benefited by lying about his age.

I remember back when the movie Hardball came out, MTV did a "Making of the Video" episode for the song Hardball. At the end of the episode, all the rappers in the video (Bow Wow, Lil Zane, Sammie and Lil Wayne) tried to ride on the ATVs that were used in the shoot. The producer of the video came on screen and said they were too young to legally ride the ATVs -- most of them were too young to even have driver's permits -- and the episode ended with a shot of only Lil Wayne riding off of on the bike. I guess that makes sense, since he was apparently 22 years old at the time of that video and significantly older than his video costars.

Speaking of weed, Young Buck just released The Chronic 2006 mixtape. I picked it up yesterday, and needless to say it does not measure up to either of Dre's Chronic albums. As with most mixtapes, there were no production credits on it, so its hard to say who produced most of the beats on here. Its a safe bet that few, if any, were produced by Dr. Dre. If you're a diehard fan of Buck Marley, you can pick it up here. One track from the mixtape seems appropriate for this post:
