Today, I was going to put up a post about The Game, but it seems like thats
already been done by a few other sites. The Game released a track on Monday dissing everyone from Jay-Z ("You 38 and still rappin?") to Lil Jon ("Turn on the TV and all you see is the A / Keep on snappinÆ your fingers I ainÆt goinÆ away") to Pharrell and the Clipse ("Bathing Ape shoe niggas IÆm talking to you"). Manufactured beef with 50 Cent helped his first album go platinum, so apparently The Game figured dissing every other rapper would lead to diamond status for his second album. You can get the track from NahRight
here.
Ok, so since those other sites already beat me to the punch on The Game, I picked up a mixtape from a Philly rapper I know no one has been talking about recently: ex "Da Band" member Elliot Ness. For those of you who watched Diddy's Making The Band (the season before Puff decided to create an R&B group full of girls who can't sing), you may remember Ness as the dude who repeatedly ended up on the wrong side of a beatdown by various other members of the group. He also happened to be the most talented rapper on the show. That isn't really saying much, but surprisingly it was good enough to get him a contract with Bad Boy. Apparently, with G-Dep, Black Rob and "
Bad Boy's White Boy" all M.I.A., Diddy needed another mediocre rapper on the label. Ness at least understands the basics of the rap game: if you don't have anything interesting to offer musically, go
get shot at and hope that generates some buzz.
The mixtape, The Leak: Rhyme or Crime vol. 1, is average at best. Unless you're a big fan of Making The Band, this mixtape probably isn't going to interest you. There was one verse he did on the tv show that I thought was kind of hot, but unfortunately that one didn't make it onto this mixtape. Ness does his best work over beats that you've heard before on other rappers' singles. I can't decide whether those tracks sound good because Ness is actually rapping well over the beat, or if I'm just nodding my head along to it because I recognize the beat. Check out a couple of his freestyles and decide for yourself:

In other Bad Boy news, Puffy has put up
a page on myspace. There's the usual promo stuff on his page, as well as the amazing opportunity to "get text messages about Diddy directly on your cell phone!" He also has put up a bizarre video of himself picking his nose.
Check it out.
