Back in my college days I used to dj up in Boston (Yawkey Ave, holla back). My post-graduation 9-to-5 has kept me from doing any shows in the past couple of years, but back then my turntable game was on point. I think every dj has a specific record (or, in the case of Whoo Kid and other mixtape djs, a played out sound effect) that they use as their signature when they are performing. For me, it was a song by the Fresh 3 MC's,
Fresh. I used to cut the hell out of that record, mixed in with a few samples from Doug E. Fresh, so much so that I had to buy a new copy of the record a few times a year.
Over the past year I have been making the transition from vinyl to strictly digital (once I am able to talk myself into dropping the money for
this bad boy, my new setup will be complete). As part of this transition, I have had to sell most of my vinyl records, including my last copy of FRESH. Thanks to the crate diggers over at
the Cocaine Blunts forums, I now have an mp3 version of the track. Have a listen:
Fresh 3 MC's Fresh
The Fresh 3 MC's came out in 1982 under Profile Records, and Fresh was their only succesful single. Apparently all 3 members of the group have since become 5 Percenters. As disappointing as I find that news, I still love this song.
If you're interested in buying that "Fresh" tag pictured above, you can order it
here, along with a bunch of other graffiti-style paintings.
On a seperate note, check out
this story about a stolen T-Mobile Sidekick. Moral of that story: If you're going to steal someones sidekick, don't take pictures of yourself with it!
