On my Jax to Newark flight home tonight I met Yung Joc and his entire crew. Normally I would try to avoid looking like a complete stan, especially since I have said in the past that I'm not really into his music, but how could a hip hop blogger pass up the opportunity to talk to the latest Bad Boy sensation? Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me, so you're just going to have to take my word for this. Yung Joc was wearing exactly the same outfit as he wears in the Its Going Down video, including the iced out shades. Most of his crew was pretty quiet, but I did get a chance to talk for awhile with Joc and his right hand man Chino Dollar.

My seat was way in the back of the plane and I knew Joc was going to be sitting up front1 so I didn't waste time and cut straight to the chase: What was the deal with that Cam'ron verse on Its Going Down?

Suprisingly, Yung Joc said he had no idea Cam had put a verse together dissing Jay-Z, and was surprised when Cam released it. Chino said the first he heard about it was when MTV News called him up to interview him about it on Thursday and neither of them actually heard the Cam version until a dj played it at a club in Jacksonville over the weekend. This isn't to say that Joc was upset with Cam's verse or anything -- on the contrary, he was flying up to Newark to perform at Hot 97's Summer Jam concert tonight and he said he was excited about the fact that he was going to be performing with Dipset.

Sadly I am not going to the concert tonight, but I can only assume the big event that Cam has been promising for Summer Jam is him coming on stage to perform the song with Yung Joc. While there have been rumors that Cam'ron has pictures of what he is claiming is Jay-Z's illegitimate child that he had with a cast member from America's Next Top Model, and that the big event is going to be him unveiling these photos, I have my doubts about that. Guess we'll find out tomorrow morning, once reviews of the concert start coming in.

As we were getting onto the plane, I asked Chino what he thought of Cam's verse. He said, "I hope Jay doesn't get mad. Hopefully he just brushes it off." The drawback of not being a real journalist is that I don't carry around a tape record for situations like this, but that quote is as accurate as it can be from my memory. He then once again said they had nothing to do with Cam's verse.

I'm still not a huge fan of Yung Joc as a musician -- though I will admit I will kind of hum along with Its Going Down whenever the video comes on tv -- but I have to say that he and his crew all seemed to be good people. So good luck to him, and I wouldn't worry, currently Jay's so enamored with southern rappers that I don't think he has it in him to take shots at anyone from Atlanta.

Since we're on a Yung Joc vibe for this post, here are some random YJ links:

1: As it turned out, he didn't fly First Class -- you need to get Diddy to up your per diem! While most of them all sat in the front together, they did make one dude in their crew sit in the very last row of the plane. I can't laugh too hard at that, as I also was seated in the last row of the plane. That dude was so salty about the seating arrangements he spent the entire flight giving the evil eye to everyone sitting in the rows ahead of him.
