110k:

The latest sales figures for this week (you can check them out here if you don't mind registering) show that Mobb Deep's new album is likely going to sell 110k units. Under normal circumstances, I don't really care how many albums someone sells, but in this case I am interested due to the fact that they are under G-Unit. 100k+ would actually be a solid first week for most rap groups, but these days people will buy anything with the G-Unit label on it so I expect 50 Cent is going to be a bit disappointed by this.

Up to this point in their time on the label, Mobb Deep seem to be just a trophy for 50 Cent. He throws them in the background of a couple of his videos, literally brands them with the G-Unit logo (see Prodigy's hand in the photo above) and even got them involved in his beef with Nas. Yet when its time for their album to come out, they don't get anywhere near the level of promotion that Lloyd, Buc or Tony Yayo got for their albums. And while I have my doubts about the quality of this new Mobb album (I still haven't listened to it yet), there's no way its going to be as bad as Tony Yayo's.

The problem here is that 50 Cent is going to be less forgiving if Mobb's album doesn't sell than when Yayo's album bricked. 50's been down with Yayo for a long time, whereas this partnership with Mobb Deep seems to be strictly business for him. If this album ends up selling less than 500k, I would not be surprised if the relationship sours and things fall apart the way it did with The Game. I think this is would be a good thing anyway, as I'd much rather hear a Mobb Deep track with Big Noyd than with Olivia.

If you haven't already, check out the review of Mobb Deep's new album by Little Brother's Phonte ("taygravy" on that message board). He's a bit harsh on Mobb, but he makes a lot of valid points.

Putting up a couple of old, unreleased Mobb Deep tracks for today. These were recorded after Juvenile Hell, but before the Infamous album. Sound quality is pretty rough, sorry about that.
