Today is the final day of Black History Month. I won't get into the politics involved with this month-long event, other than to point out that the person who originally created the holiday assumed that it would eventually be phased out after a few years because "black history" is ultimately a part of "American history." I'll leave it up to you to decide whether we have reached that point in American society.
It seemed appropriate to put up a track today from Boogie Down Productions, one of the most popular conscience rap groups behind perhaps only Public Enemy. BDP, specifically rapper KRS-ONE, focused quite a bit on educating its listeners on black history. They also were the first American rap group (that I know of, anyway) to mix reggae/dancehall/ragga with rap.
I'm putting up a live version of BDP's
My Philosophy. You can buy the original version, off of BDP's album
By All Means Necessary,
