If you've got some spare time, read up on the history of Valentine's Day. Over in Japan and Korea, the tradition is reversed and women are obligated to give all of their male acquaintances chocolates (on a seperate holiday in March, Japanese and Korean men return the favor to the women). Of course, women in Japan also do things like this (<-- not safe for work link), so I'm not too upset with the situation here in America.
