I'm going to be honest, I'm not a big fan of reggaeton. I like reggae dancehall, ragga, soca and house, all of which have played a part in the development of reggaeton, but I just haven't been able to get into it at all. To me, all of the beats sound similar enough to me that it gets repetitive -- something that is perhaps inevitable, as the genre traces its roots directly back to a single beat, Shabba Ranks' Dem Bow.

When Lil Jon helped get the music in rotation here in the States, working with Daddy Yankee and Pitbull, it convinced me even further that the music was inherently repetitive. Throwing his overused "Yeeeeaaaahhh"s over the beats just made it worse for me.

With that being said, I was a bit apprehensive when I came across a track from Pharrell featuring Daddy Yankee. The beat is a Neptunes version of Reggaeton, but it comes across more smoothed out than any other beats Daddy Yankee has appeared on. Even Yankee's raps (though I can't understand a word of it -- no habla Espanol) are much softer on the ear than his earlier Gasolina.

This is apparently going to be the next single off of Pharrell's upcoming album In My Mind, coming out in February. I'm still not sold on the idea of an entire album of Pharrell rapping, but I'm sure I'll buy it when it comes out anyway.
