Phora - Sunny California

At times like this - when the temperature is below freezing, there's no sign of the sun, and snow is still lingering on the ground from a significant winter storm that hit several weeks before winter even officially began - sometimes the only cure for cold weather depression is to throw on some Cali rap videos and listen to rhymes about warm weather, palm trees and gang violence. Normally I'd turn to some classic Cube or Dre, but while going through the oldies Youtube kept giving me recommendations for a rapper named Phora. I'd never heard of Phora, a seventeen year old graffiti artist turned emcee from Anaheim, but he had a bunch of videos with view counts well into the hundreds of thousands, so clearly I've been missing out on something. He's not quite on the level of the classic West Coast rappers that I grew up with during the pre-Death Row era, not yet anyway, but this Sunny California track is a definite callback to the g-funk of the early 90's and it works really well.

Sunny California came out last summer, so here's the latest from Phora as well:
