Aside from the period of Marshall Mathers' career when he was using his albums as an alternative to therapy to deal with his mother issues, I can't think of an emcee other than Alex Ludovico who's had me excited to hear melancholy rap. And this latest single, Troposhpere Depression, has all of the hallmarks of a great Ludo track: references to substance abuse, generational angst, and overwhelming cynicism. It is quite fitting that Ludovico turned to a producer named "Misanthropy," and the NY-bred, California-based beatmaker delivered on this one. Check it out:
