Johnny Redd of State Champs - Public Enemy
Up to this point in his career as one half of Chicago's State Champs, Johnny Redd has been a thoroughly entertaining lyricist but hasn't shown much of an inclination toward political rhymes. After spending a year at college in Arizona - arguably the least progressive state in the Union - his viewpoint not all that surprisingly seems to have changed a bit, as seen in the above video that Redd says was inspired by Faith Ringgold's The Flag Is Bleeding. I don't know if this is just a one-off or if the entirety of his upcoming solo album, Out Of State Tuition, is going to have this edge to it, but either way I'm looking forward to it.
